In Hindu mythos, it is the place where yellow-green flowers are very popular as the Brahma Kamal. The Brahma Kamal is also known as "Lotus of the Gods". The tenth Sikh guru "Guru Govind Singh" had meditated at this site. And thus the lake became more sacred for the Sikhs. That is why a Sikhs Gurudwara also exists here. The Hemkund Sikhs Gurudwara stands in the memory of Guru Govind Singh.

There is a Lakshman shrine situated on the banks of Hemkund Lake. This temple is dedicated to Lakshman, the brother of Lord Rama. It is also conceived that the Sanjeevni Bhuti was found at this place. It is the only Bhuti which brought Lakshman back to life. Govind Ghat and Badrinath are the nearer places from Hemkund Sahib. Joshimath is the closest destination from this temple. The Hemkund Lake is fed by the melting snow of Hathi Parvat and Saptrishi glacier. The temple is surrounded by seven mountains, called as Hemkund Parvat. A large number of pilgrims reach here every year to seek blessings. Sikh and the Hindu rishis, yogis and pandits meditate at this site.
